Success of 2024 Summer School leads to expanded programme
A new programme to help men with experience of prostate cancer become expert and effective patient advocates has been launched by Europa Uomo.
The Europa Uomo Academy, open only to prostate patients proposed by one of Europa Uomo’s 27 member organisations across Europe, will hold two training events each year. The next will be an Expert Patient Summer School in Belgium from 31st August to 5th September. It will provide a firm knowledge base about the science of cancer, prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment and the experience of prostate cancer
The Europa Uomo Academy will follow up this Summer School with a Winter School later in 2025, focusing on training men with experience of prostate cancer to be effective patient advocates. The launch of this new expanded training programme follows Europa Uomo’s successful Summer School, held for the first time last year.
The training sessions are all run by a high-level panel of prostate cancer experts and experienced patient advocates.
“Last year Europa Uomo’s Summer School trained 25 patients to become expert patient advocates,” says Erik Briers, Europa Uomo Deputy Chairman. “This year we are offering more, under the heading Europa Uomo Academy, which will hold two training schools – one to train expert patients and the second to train patient advocates.”
If you are interested in taking part in the Summer School or Winter School, please contact your national prostate cancer patients’ organisation. You can find a list of Europa Uomo member organisations in the Members section.
