Prof Dr Louis Denis 20.01.33 to 28.07.21

Europa Uomo is sad to announce the death of one of its founders, Professor Louis Denis. Director of the Antwerp Oncology Centre since 1998 and an influential urologist in Europe, Professor Denis served as a consultant to the new Europa Uomo committee when it was established at a meeting in Rome in 2002. He served as a Europa Uomo ex-officio Board member until 19th June this year.

Europa Uomo Chairman André Deschamps paid tribute: “We have lost not only a founder of our organisation, but also a great inspirer of the patient community. Louis was constantly looking for prostate cancer patients who were capable of taking up a leading role. He made them aware of their potential and encouraged them, and this very much benefitted themselves and the organisation.”

“He had strong views about what health care professionals could do to improve the patient journey and did not hesitate to express those views – sometimes controversially – at numerous occasions during scientific congresses.”

“Although his active role in Europa Uomo diminished over recent years, he continued to inspire us, making sure that the organisation developed in keeping with the spirit of its founding fathers. Our thoughts are with Brigitte and the family.”
