Europa Uomo holding ‘summer school’ to train member organisation representatives
Europa Uomo will be training a new generation of prostate cancer patient advocates at a one-week “Summer School”, to be held in Belgium in September. Representatives from each of Europa Uomo’s member organisations have been invited to attend the event, which will include sessions by internationally-renowned prostate cancer experts and experienced patient advocates.
Organised by Europa Uomo’s Vice Chairman Erik Briers, the programme will cover the basic science of cancer, prostate cancer treatment, clinical trials, European regulations and laws and issues related to living with prostate cancer.
“If men with prostate cancer are to be successful in campaigning and providing peer-to-peer support, then they need a thorough understanding of the disease and its treatments,” he says. “So we want to train patients to know more about the medical aspects of prostate cancer, and also advocacy-related subjects such as shared decision-making.”
Contributions are expected from representatives of the European Association of Urology (EAU), European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO), the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) and Europa Uomo.
