Presentation of EU-PROPER results now available for members and other patient groups
Prostate cancer can have a significant impact on the quality of life of spouses and partners, as well as patients – and Europa Uomo has published a new presentation highlighting the issues.
Designed for patient groups to present to members, the public and policy makers, the new PowerPoint presentation provides an accessible overview of the findings of Europa Uomo’s EU-PROPER (Europa Uomo Prostate Cancer Partners in Europe Research) study.
The EU-PROPER study, based on 1135 survey responses, showed that partners of prostate cancer patients often experience mental ill health, loneliness and frustration. A third of partners say that prostate cancer has had an effect on their social and family life, and three in four say their sex life has deteriorated.
But the study also found that relationships stay strong for most couples, with 43% saying that they have become closer.
“We want to spread these findings as widely as possible, and we encourage our member organisations and others to use this presentation at their events to engage people in discussion,” said André Deschamps, Europa Uomo Past Chairman, who co-ordinated the study.
“It’s important that we all draw attention to the significant impact of prostate cancer on quality of life, for couples as well as individuals.”

The presentation is in English, but will soon be available in other languages.
