First results of EU-PRESS study due out in March

Europa Uomo would like to thank all the 672 men who responded to its in-depth online questionnaire on shared decision making in prostate cancer.

The survey responses form the basis of Europa Uomo’s important new EU-PRESS (Europa Uomo Patient REported Shared decision making Study) research. It examines how well decisions about prostate cancer treatments are currently being shared between patients and doctors. There are fears that, if men are not sufficiently involved in decisions about their care, their quality of life suffers as a result.

The responses are now being collated and analysed by Europa Uomo’s research partner, the Department of Urology at Erasmus MC Cancer Institute, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The first results will be announced after the European Association of Urology Congress in March.

Europa Uomo’s André Deschamps, who is coordinating the study, said a debt of gratitude was owed to those who had completed the detailed survey. "Having evidence of men’s real life experience of decision-making in prostate cancer will help build understanding of what can go wrong and how decision making can be improved," he said.

“Europa Uomo will be distributing the results and campaigning on the basis of them. I hope this study will contribute to better care and better quality of life.”
